# Hosted mailboxes

> Create inboxes that can receive mail and issue SMTP/IMAP credentials.

# Hosted mailboxes

Hosted mailboxes receive mail into your plan's inbox storage allowance. Create an inbox for yourself or each member of your team. Use your own domain so outgoing messages carry your name and customers know where to reply.

```bash theme={null}
curl -X POST https://app.wazobiamail.com/api/v1/mailboxes \
  -H "X-API-Key: YOUR_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"domainId":"YOUR_20_CHARACTER_ID","localPart":"support","displayName":"Example Support"}'
```

Replace YOUR\_20\_CHARACTER\_ID with the domain ID returned for your account. The new address combines localPart with that domain.

List with `GET /mailboxes`, read with `GET /mailboxes/{id}`, delete with `DELETE /mailboxes/{id}`. Watch usage with `GET /mailboxes/storage`.

## Mailbox credentials

Issue SMTP/IMAP credentials for a mailbox client:

```bash theme={null}
curl -X POST https://app.wazobiamail.com/api/v1/mailboxes/00000000000000000001/credentials \
  -H "X-API-Key: YOUR_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{}'
```

<Warning>
  Credentials are returned once. Rotate them anytime with `POST /mailboxes/{id}/credentials/rotate`.
</Warning>

## SMTP relays

If you send through an external SMTP relay, register it with `POST /smtp-relays`. Supply `name`, `smtp_host`, `smtp_port`, `smtp_username`, `smtp_password` and `smtp_security` (`starttls`, `ssl_tls` or `none`). Update with `PATCH /smtp-relays/{id}`.

## Connect your mail app

Use the IMAP and SMTP hosts, ports and TLS settings shown in your mailbox dashboard. Use the generated mailbox username and password, rather than your API key, in your mail app. IMAP receives and synchronises mail; SMTP sends it. Send a message to the mailbox and reply from it to check both directions.
